Bike of the Week – Naked cycles steel custom bike, in mint condition, lots of attention to detail.
STEEL IS REAL!
This is a custom bike from Sam of Naked Bikes, whose work is exceptional. I have seen many Naked bikes in my studios over the years (1st one was 13 or 14 years ago), especially over the last 4 years. Each and every one of them is a work of art! He mostly builds titanium bikes these days, so this steel one is extra special, especially because it was recently back for a small refresh.
I don’t see a lot of steel bikes anymore, which is a shame, because a well made steel bike rides like a dream… You have to ride one to understand, trust me. Sadly, a lot of people classify them as ‘outdated’, but there are several small frame builders making some very cool bikes!
There are couplers on both the down tube and top tube, making it a bit easier for travel. I love the paint job and the matching saddle, tire walls and handlebar tape, tying it all together. The attention to detail is superb. Of course, there are also the rim brakes, which are becoming more and more rare (I know cyclists who started relatively recently who never rode a rim brake bike, which kind of blows my mind). The rest of the build includes:
